The Shoes Left Behind
The Shoes Left Behind is an awareness and advocacy initiative created to bring visibility to the silent impact family conflict, abuse, and court decisions can have on children. The project uses the powerful symbol of small children’s shoes left behind beside a parent’s shoes to represent the absence, loss, and lifelong emotional imprint many families carry. Through storytelling, education, and public awareness, the initiative aims to start difficult conversations about child welfare, post-separation abuse, and the long-term effects of unresolved family trauma. The mission is simple: make the invisible visible and ensure the voices of children and protective parents are not forgotten.
