Every Child Leaves Family Court Carrying Something
Some children leave family court carrying a backpack. Others leave carrying years of grief, fear, confusion, silence, and questions that may never be answered. Court cases eventually close, but childhood continues—and the decisions made during those cases often shape a child’s relationships, confidence, mental health, and sense of safety for years to come.
The Shoes Left Behind was created to bring visibility to those unseen burdens. We are an awareness and education initiative dedicated to helping people understand the lasting impact that family court decisions can have on children. Through storytelling, education, community conversations, and advocacy, we strive to ensure that the experiences of children are not forgotten once the courtroom doors close. Every pair of shoes represents a child whose journey matters, whose voice deserves to be heard, and whose future is worth protecting.
Because every child leaves family court carrying something. We believe they shouldn’t have to carry it alone.
